Swim-1st Junior Triathlon Training a Success in Sussex

With the summer holidays coming to a close and the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final London coming up, Swim-1st held their first Junior Triathlon training taster course last week.

The beautiful grounds of Handcross Park School in Sussex was the setting for thetraining where 25 budding future triathletes from the surrounding towns, and from as far afield as Brighton and Arundel, enjoyed the taste of the UK’s fastest growing sportTriathlon is made up of three disciplines; swim, bike and run. The sessions included training for all three disciplines as well as sports nutrition, transition training and fitness games, culminating in their very own triathlon on the last day.

Lee Basset, founder of Swim-1st said “I am really pleased with the amazing feedback from parents and juniors regarding the training we deliveredSome promising future triathletes took part. We are now in the process of setting up a regular junior triathlon club training every week to compliment our adult section of the Swim-1st Tri Club.  This will also be an excellent opportunity for our Swim-1st Academy swimmers to progress into.”

Swim-1st will start their weekly junior triathlon club at the end of September using the facilities at Handcross Park School which include an indoor 20m swimming pool, stunning grounds and floodlit courts. The training will take place on Monday evenings. If you are interested in the junior club please email your interest to junior@swim-1sttriclub.com

Swim-1st Team Winners at Arundel Tri 2013

Sunday may 26th brought the Swim-1st crew together for the first main club event of the season!

In the blue corner, Swim-1st Vets, and in the red we have Swim-1st kids... Errr Core Elite, these fine triathletes battled it out with other relay teams and standard distance triathletes at the Arundel 2013 may bank holiday Tri.

All descended on to the sleepy village of Arundel for 6am, the day breaking into what will be a lovely summers day. Off to registration to grab our numbers and tags, bravado and back slapping hiding the fear that secretly moved within us.. Bikes racked and numbers on we all move pool side to cheer on the first athletes, Lee and Kev step up to the plate with swim hats on, both get the same lane and we're all now cheering the lads on, a good race was had, both taking turns to draft each and not slowing the pace, dubious lap counting by the marshal has the lads out of the pool neck and neck at 14 mins for their 800mtr swim! Running into transition Kev, 14:04, has a slight lead, handing his chip over to Steve. Lee's on his heels having swum 2 extra lengths at 14:58, Grant takes the chip and two carbon bikes fly off out of T1 for the 2 lap 38k uphill slog, an early morning recce of the bike route favoured Grant as he came back into to transition first with a time of 1:10. Kenny still in hoody warming up had to move quick sharp and make a quick change of chip and run out leaving Jenny tapping her watch. Confusing directions on the way in cost Steve some valuable time on his brand new carbon steed! getting in 1:26. The run was on, 9.8km out and back, up probably the biggest hills I've ever run! Sun now high and the Lewer Cheering squad have arrived in full force at the finish line, Kenny comes into the finish at 41:32, Jenny chasing in after with a well deserved 50:28. Overall times for the day gives it to the Core Elite boys in at 2:07'50 winning the relay over all and the Vets in at 2:27'51.

A well done also goes out to Andrew "Ironman in training" Wilson for competing in the sprint race and his family cheering squad.

Win lose or draw all thoroughly enjoying the day! Already looking forward to next years event to beat those times and retain the title!!

Swim-1st Tri Club Worthing Relay Winners

On a beautiful sunny morning on 12th August 2012 three teams from Swim-1st Tri Club took part in the Worthing Triathlon Olympic Distance Relay.

The race started with a tough 1500m sea swim which had a rare sighting difficulty of sun in your eyes! The 40km bike followed with the usual 10km Run to finish.

All three teams did well with one of our teams winning the overall relay. Swimmer Lee Basset, Cyclist Grant Mansfield and Runner Dave Tibbals came in 18 seconds ahead of second place to secure victory. Lee Basset who runs Swim-1st Tri Club and Head Swim Coach Grant Mansfield both said they enjoyed the race, "it was well organised and we will definitely be back next year to defend our victory"
